Workshop: Sunday, April 22 - 12:00 - 3:00 pm
Blind Art Date Meetings (Mira available by email or skype): Monday, April 23 - Wednesday, April 25
Public Performance and Reception: Thursday, April 26 - 6 - 9 pm
What makes a collaboration or relationship successful to you? What areas of your practice, artistic or otherwise, need the kind of TLC that can only be provided by working with a brand new person? What is intrinsically valuable about making creative work in tight proximity to others?
In this Collaboration Workshop we’ll use BLIND DATING as a method of examining our notions of process and relating to others. In the workshop session we'll analyze our tendencies and attempt to frame them in a historical context to uncover the buried biases we didn’t even know we had about working with each “other.”
At the workshop, all participants will be paired on a blind art date with a randomly chosen fellow participant. Each pair will have their initial meeting at the first workshop date on April 22, have the option of meeting on April 23, 24, and 25 and then will have the opportunity to present and perform their brand new work for the public on Thursday, April 26 at 7 pm. Instructor Mira Treatman will be available April 22-25 to help facilitate the collaboration and encourage the process either by email or Skype.
This workshop is great for artists working any medium or people pursuing creative work who want the opportunity to collaborate on a new piece in a low stakes, high turn-around process. People of all ages, backgrounds, and disciplines are highly encouraged to participate.
This workshop is made possible by 954 DMC's Springading Program
